Top tips for your renovation

If you’re planning your renovation, it’s both an exciting and overwhelming time. But you are well on the way to your dream home! As you move through your planning stage, we wanted to share some of our top tips to consider as you plan.

Maximise views

If you’re fortunate enough to live nestled among trees, or up on a hill top, maximise those views! We’re talking floor to ceiling windows, full window splashbacks in your kitchen or even a balcony if it’s achievable. We completed a renovation in Pascoe Vale, which is a great example of how your home can be designed to enjoy your beautiful surroundings.

Where to invest your budget

A home renovation and extension is going to be a huge financial investment. There are absolutely ways to cut costs and save money along the ways. But there are also areas where the cheapest option will impact the overall look. For us, this is flooring. High quality flooring is going to make the finished product shine and not where you should go with the “budget” option. One of our favourite finishes is the flooring in our West Footscray renovation, a worthwhile investment when you see the finished product!

Be bold

Don’t be afraid to go bold with some of your features. You can start small with things like tapwear, or go big with window frames and kitchen cabinetry. For us, we love a bold, dark kitchen, and it is something we are seeing more and more. A renovation we completed in Williamstown demonstrates how show-stopping dark cabinetry can be when paired with a home filled with natural light and bright white walls.

Add a splash of colour

One of our favourite design elements in a kitchen or bathroom is introducing some colour. A great way to achieve this is with your tile choice. We think the Flemington kitchen we renovated absolutely nailed it. With the space bathed in natural light, the unique green features don't leave the room feeling closed in but really makes the kitchen pop. The herringbone pattern on the splashback is so popular at the moment and a great way to add a feature to your kitchen, laundry or bathroom.

Focus on lighting

Lighting in your home must be functional, but there is also so much scope to introduce feature lighting as well. Think pendants over benches, hanging bedroom lighting, or features over dining tables. LED strip lighting is a great way to really elevate elements in your home. This could line cabinetry in kitchen and bathrooms, highlight bathroom mirrors and even line the stairs. The coloured pendants at our Northcote renovation provided a great pop of colour in a huge space. We loved this choice!
